Sexual
Abuse
Sexual abuse can occur at any age. While most
abuse occurs to children, sexual abuse can also occur as date rape, or
in an abusive marriage. Sexual abuse of children occurs to boys as well
as to girls.
The impact of sexual abuse can last a lifetime.
A common result is PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).
Supportive counseling can help a child overcome the trauma, and the
family cope with the damage. Counseling with adults can help a person
finally close the chapter on the open wound of abuse.
Sexual abuse of children is illegal, and must be
reported by health care professionals.
